Met <strong>Terms Of My Surrender<\/strong> (New West Records\/Warner Music) handhaaft hij moeiteloos het hoge niveau dat we van hem gewend zijn. Met een stem die kraakt als een wandeling over een schelpenpad voert de veteraan ons weer langs kroegen waar hij poker speelt (<em>Nothin&#8217; I Love<\/em>) en verhaalt hij over een man die dood wordt aangetroffen in zijn Cadillac (<em>Nobody Knew His Name<\/em>). Dit door zijn gitarist Doug Lancio<!--more--> geproduceerde album klinkt behoorlijk bluesy, maar Hiatt is er de man niet naar om zich door de definities van welk genre dan ook te laten ringeloren. Hiatt is Hiatt. En Hiatt schrijft nog altijd voortreffelijke liedjes. Over God bijvoorbeeld. Ze zeggen dat God een duivel is, totdat je hem in de ogen kijkt. Toch is <em>Face Of God<\/em> niet een liedje over het grote afscheid. Want Hiatt gaat gewoon door met waar hij goed in is, zo maakt hij duidelijk op <em>Long Time Comin&#8217;<\/em>. &#8216;I&#8217;ve been living my life like a howlin&#8217; wind and I can&#8217;t put out this flame \/ Friend of mine said a long time comin&#8217;, comin&#8217; back again&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Met de onlangs verschenen compilatie Here To Stay \u2013 Best Of 2000-2012 maakte John Hiatt duidelijk dat hij nog niet denkt aan stoppen.
