Verre van dat. De uit Kentucky afkomstige zanger-gitarist verhuisde tig jaar geleden al naar Nashville en schreef talloze hits voor \u2018foute\u2019 countryartiesten zoals Luke Bryant, Brad Paisley en Tim McGraw. Daarnaast maakte hij een aantal jaren deel uit van The Steeldrivers, een veel gelauwerde bluegrassformatie. Wat kun je dan van dit solo-album verwachten? Veertien zeer toegankelijke nummers <!--more-->waarin Stapleton laveert tussen americana, country en classic rock. Maar Stapleton is niet alleen een begenadigd songwriter, hij is ook nog eens een fantastische zanger. Luister maar een naar zijn versie van <em>Tennessee Whiskey (<\/em>dat een hit werd voor David Allen Coe en George Jones) of het live opgenomen <em>Sometimes I Cry<\/em> waarmee de plaat afsluit. Dit is een Stem (inderdaad met hoofdletter S). En dan wordt hij ook nog eens op prachtige wijze vocaal bijgestaan door zijn vrouw Morgane Stapleton.
