Hij loopt door Brooklyn op <em>Communion<\/em>, het eerste nummer van het prachtige <strong>Fables<\/strong> (Thirty Tigers\/Bertus). En hij begint direct weer over zijn worsteling met het geloof. Hij vraagt zich af wie hij eigenlijk is.\u00a0 \u2018Honey you ask me where I come from, I come from a lotta places\u2019. Eerlijker dan op <em>Harder To Lie<\/em> kan de Texaan niet zijn. \u2018I feed you fables and fool you with words\u2019, zingt hij. Daar komt dus die albumtitel vandaan. Drums openen de trage melodie van <em>New Way Of Living<\/em>. \u2018What do you <!--more-->say when there is nothing to say? \/ Do you fill the silence with a bunch of nonsense?\u2019 Misschien is het tijd voor een verandering concludeert Ramirez. Het is de keuze tussen <em>Rock &amp; A Hard Place<\/em>. Op <em>On Your Side<\/em> vraagt hij om vertrouwen van zijn partner, zodat hij ook weer in zichzelf kan geloven. Toch dreigt het op <em>How Do You Get \u2018Em Back<\/em> slecht af te lopen. \u2018And I\u2019m losing my mind cause I\u2019m losing my girl\u2019. Niettemin\u00a0getuigt hij van een diep inzicht. \u2018If you got a lover who failed you don\u2019t mean they\u2019re worth leaving \/ Some lovers would never hurt you don\u2019t mean they\u2019re worth keeping\u2019. <em>Wild Bones<\/em> is tamelijk akoestisch. Het is een liedje dat bewonderaars van Jeff Buckley zou moeten aanspreken. <em>That Ain\u2019t Love<\/em> is bijna soul zoals Robert Ellis het ook zou kunnen brengen. Een gitaar snijdt door het uptempo liedje waarin Ramirez (zang, akoestisch gitaar, piano, mondharmonica) bedankt voor een vluchtige romance. Met de powerpop van <em>Hold On<\/em> speelt hij vocaal op als John Doe. Het afsluitende <em>Ball &amp; Chain<\/em> is weer een en al vertwijfeling. \u2018And what does it mean\u2026 mean to be honest? \/ When the audience decides what you mean\u2019. Noah Gundersen produceerde <em>Fables<\/em>. Als geen ander voelt hij aan waar Ramirez het over heeft in zijn teksten; zelf richt de artiest zich op zijn albums op precies dezelfde vraagstukken. <em>Fables<\/em> kwam in Amerika vorig jaar al uit, de Europese release werd naar dit jaar verschoven. Tijdens zijn Europese tournee doet Ramirez ook Nederland aan.
