De trein wordt bevolkt door een nogal uiteenlopende groep mensen. Ze zijn allemaal op zoek naar een zonnestraal. Zo ook Doe. Halverwege het album komt die echter tot de constatering: \u2018My heart&#8217;s in California, I&#8217;m alone in Arizona\u2019. In onrust is Doe op zijn best en dat is op dit nummer het geval. Dat geldt nog sterker voor <em>Go Baby Go<\/em>. Dat botst alsof alles tegen <!--more-->elkaar in gaat. Tegen de klippen op. Debbie Harry neemt hier de rol die Exene Cervenka bij X altijd had. Toch horen we in de instrumentatie ook wat al te gladde lijntjes. Dat was bij X toch wel anders. Over zijn tijd met de legendarische punkband schreef Doe overigens onlangs het boek <em>Big Black Sun: A Personal History of L.A. Punk<\/em>. Zonlicht bepaalt de route van <em>The Westerner<\/em>. Het licht is hard. In het onbarmhartige landschap van <em>Sunlight<\/em>\u00a0valt nauwelijks te leven, hoe fraai de Spaanse gitaar die kale woestijn ook gunstig gezind tracht te stemmen.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Doe nodigt ons uit voor een treinreis (Get On Board) onder de zinderende zon (Sunlight).
