Nu is deze Stig (roepnaam) Nielsen ook niet direct een heel productief artiest te noemen. Na zijn debuut uit 2007, <em>Against The Dying Of The Lights<\/em> en <em>Man Of The Fall<\/em> uit 2012 is dit <strong>Jericho Road<\/strong> (Songcrafter Music) pas zijn derde album. Ik zeg het maar gelijk: het is ook zijn beste. De 12 liedjes op dit album staan vol bijbelse referenties, maar gaan b.v. ook over Ethan Edwards, de hoofdfiguur van de klassieke western The Searchers en over de Amerikaanse schrijfster Flannery O\u2019Connor. Nielsen<!--more--> en producer Kim Hyttel hebben de songs met een stel bijzonder goede Deense musici opgenomen in de loop van 2014 en 2015. Niet gehaast en hun tijd genomen om deze nummers tot in details uit te werken. De koortjes kloppen (prachtig in het titelnummer bij voorbeeld), het sfeervolle gitaargeluid in <em>Lullabye; a<\/em>lles valt op zijn plek. Zo wordt een stemmig geluidspalet gecre\u00eberd waarin die prachtige diepe stem van Nielsen ingebed wordt. Nielsen doet in principe niets nieuws, maar doet wat hij doet zo goed, dat dit een klassiek goed album is geworden. Doet, hoewel veel minder kaal opgenomen, ergens denken aan de American Recordings van Johnny Cash.
