Het heeft hem desondanks niet van een respectabele muzikale productie weerhouden; de singer-songwriter uit Seattle, Washington bracht al zeven albums uit. De afgelopen jaren ging de man door een diep dal: hij sloot zichzelf een jaar lang op in zijn flat om zijn demonen te bevechten. Het bezorgde hem daarbij volop inspiratie voor <strong>True Devotion<\/strong> (Barsuk Records\/De Konkurrent), want dit album klinkt als een ware catharsis; kaalgeslagen, deprimerend zelfs. Dat maakt True Devotion niet minder <!--more-->mooi, integendeel. De voormalige punkrocker klinkt ingehouden en diep gevoelig, sleept de luisteraar mee met zijn hese stemgeluid. De begeleiding sluit hier naadloos op aan, want akoestisch en gestript en slechts plaats biedend aan zachte drumtikken, akoestische gitaren, pianostreken en een enkele veeg elektrische gitaar.
