En wannabe\u2019s dat zijn The Sweetback Sisters zelf eigenlijk ook, want thuisbasis Brooklyn is nou niet bepaald de cowboyhoofdstad van Amerika. Maakt helemaal niets uit, het spelplezier spat uit de putjes van het schijfje. The Sweetback Sisters zijn <!--more-->Zara Bode (zang) en Emily Miller (zang, fiddle), maar ook Ross Bellenoit (Telecaster, baritongitaar, zang), Stefan Amidon (zang, drums), Joseph Dejarnette (staande bas) en Jesse Milnes (akoestische gitaar, baritongitaar, fiddle, zang). De nadruk van Chicken Ain\u2019t Chicken ligt op de covers, maar ook dat doet aan het plezier nauwelijks iets af. Als de zusjes hun keeltjes opzetten, dan waan je je in de Appalachen, Nashville of Bakersfield ergens eind jaren vijftig. De surrogaatzusters mogen weliswaar retro zijn, het enthousiasme en het vaardige vakmanschap zijn spetterend, authentiek en alledaags.
