Rise op het Lost Highway-label vond ik een prima plaat, maar Richey, ooit lerares in Zanesville, Ohio, gleed af naar meer gladgestreken pop. Wellicht is ze met Wreck Your Wheels (Lojinx) op de weg terug, want ze nam haar zesde album op in Nashville met toppers als David Henry, Neilson Hubbard en Will Kimbrough. Maar ook hen lukt het niet Kim Richey van een spannend muzikaal decor te voorzien. Richey blijft gevangen in een cocon van gepolijste oppervlakkigheid.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2334\" title=\"Clipboard01\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.altcountry.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Clipboard01.jpg?resize=100%2C100\" alt=\"Clipboard01\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/>Dat kan niet gezegd worden van <strong>Nina Nastasia<\/strong>, die voor haar derde album Outlaster (Fatcat Records) weer de hulp inriep van uiteenlopende figuren als noisenik Steve Albini, Tortoise-gitarist Jeff Parker en een van de beste drummers around: Jay Bellerose. Outlaster is een sterk en spannend album dat niet alleen Britse folk vermengt met country noir, maar ook een Brecht\/Weil-sfeer genereert.
