Dat heeft de 64-jarige uit Berkeley, Californi\u00eb afkomstige rock-icoon beslist niet nodig. Want John Fogerty is zonder meer nog relevant, al was ik daar na het teleurstellende Revival (2007) niet zo zeker van. Maar ik heb het geloof in Fogerty terug vanwege het verschijnen van <strong>The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again<\/strong> (Verve Forecast\/Universal), een zoals al uit de titel blijkt vervolg op Fogerty&#8217;s eerste solo-album uit 1973. <!--more-->Daar nam Fogerty alle instrumenten zelf voor zijn rekening, op The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again heeft hij de hulp ingeroepen van onder meer Eagles Don Henley en Tim Schmitt, drummer Jay Bellerose (Joe Henry), pedal steel-ace Greg Leisz (teveel om op te noemen), gitarist Buddy Miller en The Boss himself. In de twaalf covers, van uiteenlopend John Prine, de Everly Brothers, Rick Nelson, John Denver tot Buck Owens, kwijt Fogerty zich uitstekend van zijn taak; het spelplezier spat uit het plastic. Opvallend ten slotte, is dat Fogerty uitstekend bij stem is en nergens vervalt in kopieergedrag van zijn vroegere zelf.
