Het is groovy. Het is bluesy. Maar het is geen country. <strong>Kingdom In My Mind<\/strong> (Honey Jar Records\/Thrity Tigers\/Bertus) kwam tot stand tijdens een serie sessies waarbij <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewoodbros.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Wood Brothers<\/a> flink aan het improviseren sloegen. Zo is <em>Don\u2019t Think About My Death<\/em> een en al vrijheid. Rauw als de hel. Alsof Mississippi blues is verplaatst naar de jungle van Afrika. <em>Little Bit Broken<\/em> komt met staande bas, gitaarnoten die met effect van de snaren spatten, een mondharmonica en vooral ook een soulkoortje. <em>The One I Love<\/em> is een kaal nummer, een beetje zoals Ry Cooder in zijn <!--more-->beginperiode (en daarna natuurlijk ook nog regelmatig). En is dat een melodica, zo\u2019n toetseninstrument waardoor je lucht blaast? <em>Little Blue<\/em> is een groovy jam. Op <em>Little Bit Sweet<\/em> volgen The Wood Brothers het ritme van New Orleans. Een zenuwachtige piano brengt een snelle drive op <em>A Dream&#8217;s A Dream<\/em>, waarna een slidegitaar de band terugbrengt bij groovy blues. Rootsy is het wel.
