We hadden bij voorbeeld al The Pink Stones, Silver Synthetic en Cory Hanson en nu ligt ineens <strong>Tobacco City, USA<\/strong> van <a href=\"https:\/\/tobaccocity.bandcamp.com\/album\/tobacco-city-usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tobacco City<\/a> (eigen beheer) voor ons. Het ooit als Neil Young-coverband opgerichte kwintet Tobacco City komt uit Chicago, maar dit debuut klinkt veel Californischer dan je dan misschien zou denken. En met de leadvocals van Lexie Goddard en Cris Coleslaw (what\u2019s in a name?) moeten beslist de namen van Gram Parsons en Emmylou Harris even vallen. En tel daar het lekker rollende<!--more--> spel van Nick Usalis op pedal steel maar even bij op. Dat tilt de nummers op dit debuut ruim boven het gemiddelde. Heel mooi is het door Goddard gezongen, met vocale ondersteuning van Coleslaw en bassiste Eliza Weber), \u00a0<em>Never On My Mind, <\/em>dat een sixtiespop-feel koppelt aan een Delines-achtige weemoed. Het album kent slecht acht nummers en haalt qua speelduur het halfuur nog niet. De meeste songs trekken lekker lui voorbij, maar in het alcoholvrije <em>AA Blues <\/em>en <em>Neon Lights<\/em> ligt het tempo flink hoger.
