Voor producer Robert Deaton uit Nashville was zulks niettemin een missie en hij stak er jarenlang alle energie in. <strong>Stoned Cold Country &#8211; A 60th Anniversary Tribute To The Rolling Stones<\/strong> (BBR Music\/BMG) is het resultaat van zijn werk. En het is toch grotendeels te danken aan Deaton dat het project geslaagd is. Zijn rol als producer heeft hij namelijk op knappe wijze vervuld. Want al die nummers behouden dat toch altijd wat rafelige randje dat de Stones juist tot zo\u2019n meesterlijke band maakte. Of <!--more-->moet dat laatste in tegenwoordige tijd? Mwah, het beste werk van de Britten ligt toch echt ver achter ons, want dan hebben we het over de jaren 70, over <em>Sticky Fingers<\/em> en <em>Exile On Main Street<\/em>, platen die je best kunt omschrijven als countryrock. Maar behalve dat Deaton bij al die artiesten het vuige van de Stones registreerde, stelde hij ze ook in staat om zichzelf te blijven. Missie geslaagd. Het album begint niet erg bevredigend met <em>(I Can\u2019t Get No) Satisfaction<\/em> door Ashley McBryde, maar dat is ook een schier onmogelijke opgave, want wat valt er nog toe te voegen aan deze platgespeelde klassieker? Ook <em>Angie<\/em> door Steve Earle is nogal overbodig, maar verder valt er weinig te klagen. Zelfs niet als je eigenlijk niet zit te wachten op bijdragen van Brooks and Dunn of Little Big Town. Want de versies van respectievelijk <em>Honky Tonk Women<\/em> en <em>Wild Horses<\/em> mogen er wezen.
