Daar heeft hij een aardige loopbaan als singer-songwriter opgebouwd, maar zijn geschiedenis als musicus begon al in de jaren 60. Op <strong>Roy On The Hill<\/strong> (Beejayzus Music) zoekt hij zijn eigen weg tussen countryrock en folkrock. Jones (zang, akoestische gitaar) leunt daarbij sterk op het vioolspel van Jonas Liljestr\u00f6m van de Zweedse formatie Sl\u00e0inte waarvan Jones zelf ook deel uitmaakt. Dat vioolspel neigt regelmatig naar Schotse en Ierse folk, maar op nummers als <em>Anything<\/em> en <em>In The Name Of The Devil<\/em> valt <!--more-->ook sterk te denken aan <em>The Lonesome Jubilee<\/em> van John Cougar Mellencamp, een album waarop Lisa Germano immers een sterk stempel drukte met haar vioolspel. <em>In The Name Of The Devil<\/em> rockt trouwens ook als The Waterboys van Mike Scott, dus dat is dan weer een Schotse connectie.
