Ik kan alle kanten op met mijn muziek, lijkt hij te willen zeggen, maakt me niet uit, \u2018takin\u2019 it nice and slow\u2019. En zo is het. Na zijn vooral op country geori\u00ebnteerde eerste twee platen <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcountry.nl\/blog\/2016\/01\/sam-outlaw\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Angeleno <\/a><\/em>(2015) en <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcountry.nl\/blog\/2017\/04\/sam-outlaw-2\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tender Heart<\/a><\/em> (2017) nam hij met <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcountry.nl\/blog\/2021\/11\/sam-outlaw-3\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Popular Mechanics <\/a><\/em>(2017) een niet door iedereen gewaardeerde afslag naar de popmuziek \u2013 vreemd genoeg juist nadat hij van Californi\u00eb verhuisd was naar Nashville. <em>Terra Cotta<\/em> is van alles wat, zou je kunnen zeggen, maar dat <!--more-->klinkt alsof het een bij elkaar geraapt zootje is, en niets is minder waar. Outlaw laat horen dat hij op vele markten thuis is en zijn prachtige stem garandeert dat elk nummer wel degelijk en onmiskenbaar <em>Sam Outlaw<\/em> is. Of hij nou diep de country induikt in <em>Pretty Good Singer, Ways To Go<\/em> en <em>Heart And Soul<\/em>; de klassieke countryrock opzoekt in <em>Figure It Out<\/em> en <em>Someone Quite Like You<\/em> of zich aan de stevig aangezette alternatieve rock waagt in het slotnummer <em>I\u2019ll Be Damned<\/em>. Het openingsliedje <em>Pretty Good Singer<\/em> gaat over het dagelijks werk van de talloze ambachtelijke singersongwriters in Nashville. <em>Terra Cotta<\/em> bewijst dat Sam Outlaw veel verder durft te gaan dan dat eindeloos produceren en reproduceren van risicoloze mainstream altcountry. <em>(Sam Outlaw speelt op 30 april in Amen, op 1 mei in Utrecht en op 2 mei in Eindhoven.) <\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"440\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zc3zVIhL11M?list=OLAK5uy_moxjsmuRe5_5Pc6_7GRQqBvK6MlKvOOVk\" title=\"Pretty Good Singer (feat.
