Op <strong>The Rise And Fall Of American Kitsch<\/strong> (Goldrush Records) is ze er zelf ook niet ongevoelig voor. Op <em>Rich Man\u2019s Valley<\/em> geeft ze vol overgave het geld uit. \u2018What\u2019s the use of having money if you don\u2019t spend it\u2019, houdt ze zichzelf voor. Daarna koopt ze <em>Four Cadillacs<\/em>. Eentje voor mama, eentje voor papa, eentje voor zichzelf \u2018and one for you pretty baby\u2019. De rockabilly koerst uitgelaten richting big band, ongeveer zoals Brian Setzer het ook zou kunnen. Via de <!--more-->met banjo gebrachte <em>Shake Bump And Grind Show<\/em> komen we bij de Las Vegas dromen van <em>Gold In The Sand<\/em>. Er ligt een fortuin te wachten. Jonas zingt bijna een beetje als Dolly Parton, maar helt wel wat over naar pop. Met dat fortuin kun je naar Hawa\u00ef: <em>Let\u2019s Go To Hawaii<\/em>. Klinkt als de jaren 50 natuurlijk. Zelfs <em>Online Shopping<\/em> gaat qua sound 70 jaar terug in de tijd. Jonas ontkomt er niet aan om toch ook nog even na te denken over haar gedrag. \u2018Consumerism is our national religion \/ And I try but I can\u2019t escape it \/ I love it as much as I hate it \/ the rise and fall of American kitsch \/ Looked better on Elvis\u2019, declameert ze op het titelnummer. \u2018The rise and fall of American kitsch \/ Looked better on Elvis \/ Now we\u2019re accelerating toward some ominous high-tech destination \/ With Botox-stuck smiles on our faces \/ But no matter how many products I purchase \/ My vanity project is falling \/ I am aging \/ My hair is greying\u2019.
