Een mooi, klein optreden, zonder entree maar met een rondgaande hoed. \u2018Rustig, maar heerlijk onderhoudend\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcountry.nl\/blog\/2023\/04\/zachary-lucky-de-rust-van-de-canadese-prairie-in-haarlem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">schreef <\/a>collega Peter Hageman over het concert. Hetzelfde kan gezegd worden over <strong>The Wind <\/strong>(Wroxton Recordings), het nieuwe album van Lucky (kleinzoon van de Canadese countrylegende Smilin Johnny Lucky \u2013 niks neps dus aan Zachary\u2019s achternaam). Er is n\u00f3g een overeenkomst: de Fred Eaglesmith-cover<em> Water in the fuel<\/em>, waarmee het optreden in Haarlem werd afgesloten en die ook te vinden is <!--more-->op <em>The Wind<\/em>. Zachary Lucky is nog eens geen 26, maar met zijn onafscheidelijke stetson, zorgelijke oogopslag, donkere stem en doorleefde, weemoedige liedjes lijkt hij veel ouder. Zo zingt hij in <em>Good at gettin\u2019 gone<\/em> over hoe het leven met een beetje mazzel \u00f3\u00f3k had kunnen gaan: &#8216;Things could\u2019ve been different \/ Swung a hammer &#8211; drove a truck \/ No matter how you cut it \/ I\u2019ve never had much luck.&#8217; In <em>Ramblin\u2019 Kind <\/em>zoekt hij overal vergeefs naar een beetje rust: &#8216;Well I\u2019ve been from Tulsa \/ Across that Great Divide \/ Only looking for one thing \/ A little peace of mind.&#8217; Ook in <em>Water in the fuel<\/em> en <em>Wild Rose County<\/em> gaat het over het eindeloze bestaan op de weg, \u2018with no way to get home\u2019, net als in het slotstuk <em>The Wind<\/em>: \u2018I can hear that lonesome wind blow \/ It sounds like its calling my name \/ Well its many a mile and many a day \/ I have been away.&#8217; De begeleiding is net genoeg en nergens over the top, waarbij vooral die bescheiden dobro op de achtergrond fantastisch werk levert.
