Brandt begon als jazz<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">za<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">ngeres. Toen ze tijdens de pandemie thuis kwam te zitten leerde ze zich<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">zelf<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">\u00a0aan om ook eigen liedjes te schrijven. Dat had ze voordien nog nooit ged<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">aan. Bovendien bekwaamde ze zich in een <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">a<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">nder genre: americana. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Levenspartner Eric Julio Carranza schreef mee, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">nam ook in belangrijke mate de instrumentale omlijsting op zich en <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">produceerde dit tweede album van Brandt: <strong>American Saga<\/strong>. En het is echt <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">heel fijn; de uit Minnesota komende Brandt zingt echt als een americana-zangeres, maar laat in haar songs ook <!--more-->andere invloeden toe. In het openingsnummer <em>Nicotine<\/em> hoor je <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">plotseling <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">zware gitaren <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">en <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">die tillen het nummer wel echt op. <\/span><em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Sunup<\/span><\/em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">, met al z&#8217;n psychedelische beschrijvingen van een seksuele ervaring, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">draait vrij snel naar een dansnummer met <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">o<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">nweerstaanba<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">re <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">groove<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Brandt roert allerlei thema&#8217;s aan op dit <em>American Saga<\/em>, dat daarmee ook een passende titel heeft gekregen. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Ze zingt over <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">een vrouw die toegeeft aan de verlokkinge<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">n van Las Vegas (<em>Queen Of Clark Country<\/em>), <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">over<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">de teloorgang van het oude leven (<em>Dollar Stores &amp; Strip <\/em><\/span><em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Malls<\/span><\/em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">)<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">en over <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">zich verliezen aan een oudere man die haar wel gitaar leerde spelen maar die als <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">j<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">unkie o<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">ok allerlei slechte invloeden op haar had<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\"> (<\/span><em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Beg<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Steal<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\"> Or <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Borrow<\/span><\/em><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">, met een leuke verwijzing naar Frida <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW66180720 BCX8\">Kahlo<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">). Brandt kan echt schrijven, maar kan vo<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW66180720 BCX8\">oral ook echt zingen.
