Je mag hopen dat daar met <strong>That Old Southern Drag<\/strong> (Nine Mile Records\/Sonic Rendezvous) verandering in komt, want Patrick Sweany veegt hier de vloer aan met het gros van de countrybilly- en swamprockers van het huidige tijdsgewricht. De inwoner uit Kent, Ohio toog naar Nashville, Tennessee en plakte en knipte daar deze ijzersterke rhythm &amp; bluesplaat met countrysoul-topping en jaren zeventig-sfeer in elkaar. Sweany rekent Eddie Hinton, Doug Sahm <!--more-->en Bobby &#8216;Blue&#8217; Bland tot zijn helden, en dat is te horen op dit vuige, vette in een smeerkuil opgenomen album. In die zin gelijkt That Old Southern Drag sterk op Dan Auerbachs Keep It Hid, al horen we ook Alex Chilton, John Fogerty, John Hiatt en ook The Loved Ones langskomen in opwindende bluesy, swampy en buikschuivende rhythm &amp; bluessongs. Gedragen door zompige hoogtepunten als Sleeping Bag, Corner Closet, Rising Tide en Heavy Problems is That Old Southern Drag een smaakvolle, volvette verassing.
