Voor <strong>Father To The Man<\/strong> (Bite Music) voegen we daar Richard Thompson aan toe, omdat die naam opkwam bij het liedje <em>The Lady And The King<\/em>. Betekent dit dat deze Brit die al heel lang in Amerika woont een epigoon is van al deze collega\u2019s? Geenszins, want ook al komen die namen op bij het beluisteren van het gitaarspel en de zang van Wates, hij maakt met zijn liedjes toch vooral erg duidelijk dat ze inhoudelijk uit het diepste van<!--more--> zijn innerlijk komen. Dat geldt helemaal voor deze conceptplaat die is opgedragen aan zijn vierjarige zoontje Gabriel. De eerste zes liedjes gaan over het kind, de laatste zes liedjes gaan over de man die zijn zoon ooit zal worden. Het is bovenal een werkstuk van verwondering en warmte. Wates (zang, akoestische gitaar) wordt slechts bijgestaan door Dave Pomeroy op staande bas. De reis door het leven van <em>Father To The Man<\/em> is er eentje van bewustwording.
