Dat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewildmans.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Wildmans <\/a>op hun nieuwe album <strong>Longtime Friend<\/strong> (New West Records) een van Siebels mooiste liedjes (<em>Any Day Woman<\/em>, van <em>Woodsmoke And Oranges<\/em>) coveren, is dan ook op zich al bijna genoeg voor vier sterren. Maar ook de rest van het album verdient alle waardering. De tweeling Elisha (gitaar, mandoline, zang) en Aila Wildman (fiddle, zang) komt uit Floyd, Virginia, midden in de Blue Ridge Mountains. Die rurale herkomst klinkt duidelijk door op <em>Longtime <!--more-->Friend<\/em>, bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van drie zeer traditioneel klinkende, maar vers gecomponeerde bluegrass-instrumentals. Dat de Wildmans hun klassiekers kennen (en respecteren) blijkt ook uit hun fraaie vertolking van <em>Hot Burrito #2<\/em> (misschien wel de openingstune van de countryrock), <em>Luxury Liner<\/em> (van Gram Parsons, bekend geworden in de versie van Emmylou Harris) en dus het fantastische <em>Any Day Woman <\/em>van Paul Siebel. Goed dat ook de nieuwe liedjes naadloos in dit klassieke repertoire passen, met als mooie voorbeelden <em>Autumn 1941<\/em> (gevoelvolle rootsballad) en <em>Before I Go<\/em> (orthodoxe country).
