Want wat kunnen we te weten komen over de Seabird Band? Zo\u2019n beetje niets. Maar wel heeft de band in 1978 een erg fijne countryrockplaat afgeleverd. Ze zijn met z\u2019n vijven en komen uit Norfolk, Virginia. Eerst zijn er in 1977 een tweetal singles, <i>Don\u2019t Disguise<\/i> en <i>Shine the Light<\/i>, vervolgens verschijnt een jaar later de elpee op het private press-label Waylon Records \u2013 wat er voor garant staat dat het aan ieders aandacht ontsnapt. Maar die plaat is er dus <!--more-->wel.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Guy Burlage (zang, gitaar, mandoline, pedalsteel), Victor Paul (zang, piano, keyboards), Brad Parker (zang, gitaar, fiddle), Skip Watts (bas) en Denis Burlage (zang, drums) richten zich op pure, klassieke countryrock; melodieuze liedjes, harmoniezang en een gitaarsolo hier en daar. Van het niveau van <i>On the Border <\/i>van The Eagles, weliswaar hun minste plaat, maar niettemin goeie countryrock. Dat geldt dus ook voor <i>Seabird Band<\/i>: competente countryrock. De plaat gaat er lekker vandoor met opener <i>Hard Lovin\u2019 Ladies<\/i>, dat zelfs neigt naar southern rock. <i>Don\u2019t Disguise<\/i> is dan weer pure country met die jengelende pedalsteel. En zo ontrolt zich met heerlijke songs als <i>Memory of You<\/i>, <i>Got To Get Away<\/i>, de showboatin\u2019 instrumental <i>White Mountain Rag<\/i> en de schitterende countryrocksongs <i>Virginia Feelin\u2019<\/i> en <i>Sweet Forgetfulness<\/i> een standaard countryrockplaat, dat wil zeggen voldoend aan alle criteria. En misschien wel daarom is <i>Seabird Band<\/i> een aller charmantste plaat, temeer omdat dat alles is wat er is: Seabird Band lost, zoals te verwachten valt, op in het niets.<\/p>\n<p><i>Seabird Band<\/i>.
