Naar dit opperhoofd vernoemde de countryrockband Ouray zich, al is dit kwintet wel, zo\u2019n duizend mijl verwijderd daarvan, afkomstig uit Chicago, Illinois. Eind jaren zeventig produceert Ouray twee albums \u2013 de tweede overigens in 1981 \u2013, waarvan het debuut <i>Chrome on the Range<\/i> alleszins de betere is.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Chrome on the Range<\/i> speelt zich af op het snijvlak van de countryrock van Poco en The Eagles, zoals overduidelijk in <i>Stronghold<\/i>, en de <!--more-->southern rock van The Outlaws en The Allman Brothers Band. Kernpunten in de rock van Ouray zijn dan ook I) de harmoniezang, II) de combinatie van akoestische en elektrische gitaren, III) de jengelende pedalsteel en IV) de dubbele gitaarpartijen. Dat alles manifesteert zich bij uitstek in de geweldige songs <i>Feeling Quite Alive<\/i> (ja: The Allman Brothers of anders wel de soloplaten van Gregg Allman of Dickey Betts), <i>One Horse Town<\/i> (opnieuw \u00e0 la The Eagles), het zweverige, Poco-achtige <i>100 Years<\/i> en de ook al prachtige afsluiter <i>Leave for the Night<\/i>, die meer dan wie ook The Outlaws in herinnering roept.<\/p>\n<p>Op een piepklein label uitgebracht in 1978 doet<b> <\/b><i>Chrome on the Range <\/i>natuurlijk helemaal niets. Een hernieuwde poging drie jaar later met het weinig ge\u00efnspireerde <i>Motor Dream<\/i> wordt vanzelfsprekend ook niets, zodat Ouray volledig en ook begrijpelijk uitpiert.
