Ik kende ze namelijk niet, terwijl <strong>El Sonido Nuevo<\/strong> (Spark &amp; Shine Records\/Sonic Rendezvous) al het zevende (studio)album is. Ian Moore is een Texaan die in Seattle landde en daar in de powerpopscene (The Posies, Oranger) terechtkwam. In die hoek moeten we The Lossy Coils ook plaatsen, al neigt het trio sterkt naar pubrock, in lekkere opener Secondhand Store, en licht twangende rootsrock. Mooie, meanderende gitaarsolo&#8217;s zijn er ook, bijvoorbeeld in het Paisley Underground-achtige Birds Of Prey, maar vanwege <!--more-->de catchy songs en de fraaie melodie\u00ebn is El Sonido Nuevo toch vooral een popplaat; een gitaarpopplaat, dat wel. Beatles- en Big Star-invloeden klinken prominent door in het fijne Newfound Station, terwijl prijsnummer Hillary Step opgeblazen wordt door een explosieve gitaarsolo.
