Dat getuigt mijns inziens van weinig zelfkennis, want tot mijn zeer grote tevredenheid is Going &amp; Gone bijzonder retro. Countrysoul, Muscle Shoals, dat werk. Hammond, stroperig, incidentele blazers, dat is Atheys habitat. Eric Athey is een bescheiden wat onnadrukkelijke singer-songwriter uit Lancaster, Pennsylvania met een bijzonder talent voor het liedje en ook de uitvoering daarvan. Aldus beschikt hij op zijn derde album over uitstekende, sfeervolle <!--more-->liedjes en een breed instrumentarium van Hammond, lapsteel, dobro, trompet en sax, en \u2013 niet onbelangrijk \u2013 Steve Cropper-hakgitaar. Aangezien ik totaal niet van blazers houd, ben ik ermee verguld dat deze op Going &amp; Gone een zeer bescheiden rol spelen \u2013 ten faveure van Hammond, elektrische gitaar en gospelzang. De tien zonder uitzondering sterke songs \u2013 met daarbij een curieuze cover van Fleetwood Macs Albatross \u2013 maken van dit Going &amp; Gone een aanrader vanjewelste voor de liefhebbers van countrysoul; en ook van Ryan Adams, Dylan LeBlanc, Jason Isbell, Buddy Miller. Dat werk.
